Welcome to the series #EVERYDAYHEROES in which we introduce exceptional members of our network. Another Everyday Hero is Elene Svianadze from Georgia.
Can you introduce yourself?
I am Elene from Georgia. I study International Relations at the Free University of Tbilisi. I work as a Red Cross Volunteer for the US – South Dakota chapter and in Tbilisi as well. Most of my day contains of working on my language skills- Arabic and French. I love to spend my free time with my friends and family, and most importantly, with my dog. I like art and photography, so I often visit museums.
What do you consider your biggest success?
If I got this question two years ago, I would answer learning Arabic because it is surely a very challenging language to be good at. However, right now I would say that my biggest success is in managing to hold a fundraising campaign for my closest friend who suffered from cancer and collecting about $100k in two weeks of the operation that was needed.
But, in my professional life, I think being a finalist in the UGRAD leadership program and studying in the USA for a fully funded semester is also a success story.
What does the word DEMOCRACY mean to you?
Democracy for me means being heard, having the free will to choose, and acknowledging that the governments are there to serve us, not vice-versa. I see democracy as something that can cause lots of disputes and discussions, but without that, no proper choices are made. So while democracy is loud and sometimes might cause conflicts, it is the best way to make decisions.
Whom do you consider your Everyday Hero and why?
Probably my Mother – she is the sweetest and coolest person that I have ever seen. And the reason for that would be her ability to love eternally and unconditionally. And she feels responsible to help everyone in need.
What does the concept of Everyday Hero mean to you?
An everyday hero can be anyone who does their work properly and is ready to help others. Because if we all did our work the way it should be, I believe we would have fewer problems in this world.
Why did you become a member of EDYN?
I heard about this network from my professor and decided to join it, because of its values and the opportunities that EDYN provides for its members. I hoped to see many like-minded people within the network and share some thoughts about the future of our country.
