Welcome to the series #EVERYDAYHEROES in which we introduce exceptional members of our network. Through pop culture, we discovered that heroes fly, have superpowers, come from another planet, and wear capes and costumes, but there are other, real heroes. Heroes we are surrounded by every day, who raise their voices in times of injustice and fight for the rights of all of us. Who look the same as us, who express their superpower by fighting every day for a better and democratic society. Everyday heroes, that we have to talk about. Follow us on our Instagram to catch the next interview among the first ones.

Another Everyday Hero is Vedrana Vujović from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Vedrana Vujović. I was born in 1994 in besieged Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo is my hometown and the place where I live and don’t want to leave. I graduated from the Faculty of Political Science University of Sarajevo in Communications/Journalism, and after that, I got a master’s degree in Political Science – Governance. In General Elections 2022 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, I was elected MP in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, and then in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
So, what I do for a living right now is being a full-time politician. Since I’ve been active in the political party Democratic Front since 2013, I can say that politics is my passion.
I like to spend my free time with my family and friends, reading books about psychology, history, and sociology.

What do you consider your biggest success?
Today, from this perspective, my biggest success is that I didn’t give up: either from education, networking, getting to know other cultures, and of course – that I got the opportunity to present myself in the elections and be elected. I think that many people, especially young people, give up on their dreams and goals because they don’t have support. I am grateful that I have people who believe in me and who are my faithful support as well as critics.

What does the word DEMOCRACY mean to you?
Democracy is a lifestyle. Way of living. For me, democracy is freedom, equality, and an opportunity to be better at what we do.
You cannot work for equality and freedom in public and behave the opposite in private. These are double standards. There is no such thing in democracy.

Who do you consider your Everyday Hero and why?
Have you ever seen a superhero give up in the face of an enemy or obstacles? Neither do I. I don’t think that this is the quality of heroes only, but the daily life of citizens. And that is my biggest motivation – not to give up, even if things seem impossible.

What does the concept of Everyday Hero mean to you?
Everyday Hero concept represents for me personally the message that I am not alone, that we are not alone. This concept gathers great young people from all over Europe who fight for themselves and their community every day, and I am pleased to be part of this story.

Why did you become a member of EDYN?
I became part of the EDYN network because I believe that networking is important. I have experience with global networks, but as important as global unity is, regional or local is equally important. Especially in Europe and Eurasia. We have a lot in common, and by working together we can do amazing things. To live in multiculturalism, in peace, learn from each other, and create a society of equals – I believe that all EDYN members want that, especially today when there is a war in Ukraine.
