Welcome to the series #EVERYDAYHEROES in which we introduce exceptional members of our network. Through pop culture, we discovered that heroes fly, have superpowers, come from another planet, and wear capes and costumes, but there are other, real heroes. Heroes we are surrounded by every day, who raise their voices in times of injustice and fight for the rights of all of us. Who look the same as us, who express their superpower by fighting every day for a better and democratic society. Everyday heroes, that we have to talk about. Follow us on our Instagram to catch the next interview among the first ones.

Another Everyday Hero is Branislav Josifović from Serbia.

Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Branislav Josifović. I was born in 1991, and I am living in Knjazevac, where I have finished primary and high school. I graduated from the School of Engineering Management in Belgrade. My first job was in the Municipality of Knjazevac as an Administrative Assistant in Department for Budget and Finance. In 2015 I was appointed as Chief of Staff in the Municipality of Knjazevac. After the local elections which were held in 2020, I was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor, my first elected office. In the Parliamentary elections in 2022, I was elected as a Member of Parliament at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, as a member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

What do you consider your biggest success?
My biggest success, in a professional way, is that working on the local level as a public servant and representing the elected officials make that the people have gained confidence in me and my work and give me the trust to represent them on the national level.

What does the word DEMOCRACY mean to you?
We have a lot of definitions of democracy, and a lot of great speeches about democracy, and I think that democracy is something that needs to be implied as a fact, something that is not negotiable.

Who do you consider your Everyday Hero and why?
My everyday heroes are ordinary people who are doing public work which is making your life functions normal and making your society better. They are not the ones who are exposed, but they are working on the most important work.

What does the concept of Everyday Hero mean to you?
It is inspiring to see other people’s success stories and what path they took to reach their goals.

Why did you become a member of EDYN?
I like the concept of EDYN, and mostly that EDYN gathers very different young politicians, and activist into the network and make them work together on different issues.
